Mastering the Eye Shadow Application

Cut-Crease-PhotoThere is no right or wrong when it comes to makeup. It’s all about the techniques you use. For instance, there is a little more technique involved in applying eye shadows than simply swiping the powder across your eyes. There are a few things listed below that we tend to do, but if avoided, can help achieve that professional makeup look.

Mistake 1 – Using foundation on your eye lids instead of eye shadow primer

I know… its convenient, right? But foundations and primers are used for different purposes. You will notice that your eye makeup won’t last long enough & will crease faster when you use foundation on eyes. Always use an eye shadow primer to ensure longevity of your eye makeup. Of course you can skip this step if you don’t find it necessary.

Mistake 2 – Using a sponge applicator

Lots of eye shadow palettes come with these mini sponge applicators. These pick up a lot of pigment at once & so are quite easy to use, but can make the eye shadow look caked on. It’s advisable to invest in a separate eye shadow brush that allows you to gradually add the product for an effortless look.

Mistake 3 – Not defining the crease

The “crease” is the line that separates mobile eyelid from the immobile one. This is an important step to achieve that flawless eye look. While you can use any colour depending on your skin tone & the look you want to go for, using a nude matt brown on the crease accentuates the eye shape & works as a border for your eye shadow application.

Mistake 4 – Not blending

Using different colours on your crease, eye lids & brow bone surely adds depth to your eyes. But if they are not blended well, it looks messy & undone instead of smooth & sexy.

Mistake 5 – Not applying / applying excess of shadow below the eye

Applying the eye shadow closely along your lower lash line finishes your eye look. But applying too much of it can drag your eyes down. It’s important to use the right brush here & blend it out.  Check out this link to know more about which brushes to use.

4 Products You Can Carry Everywhere

Does anyone face this problem or is it just me? I don’t like carrying tonnes of makeup in my office bag or for an outing. Not only does it add to the weight, but one cannot possibly fit in all favourite products. At the same time, I cannot leave home without products I absolutely need or can blindly count on! So this is my take on products that are light weight, do not take too my space & helps me look as put together as possible.

4 Products_Carry Everywhere

  1. Kajal/ Kohl/ Eye Pencil

This can be a basic black or brown or blue, depending on your preference. A good kohl pencil is a must have product and can completely transform you. Wear a minimum amount during day time & amp it up according to your eye shape for night time.

  1. Lip & Cheek Blush/ Stains

Nothing like one product that can do two things! Choose the texture & shade you like from any brand you like & glow from within after wearing them. Because these are liquid/ cream formulations, they look dewy on the skin. On the other hand, you could also choose to carry one lipstick that could be used as blush & eyeshadow. Check out this link on how to do that.

  1. Mascara

Go for a volumizing or lash extension one, as per your requirement. Check out this link on how to correctly use a mascara.

  1. Concealer

This is just in case you have any dark spots/ blemishes/ redness you want to quick get rid of.

And voila! You can totally manage with these. What are the products that you can’t stay without? Let me know in the comments below.
