Alphabet Creams

Let’s try and clear the confusion here. With so many BB & CC creams in the market with varied properties, lot of us have been in the dark with what would work on us the best & which one should to invest in. After a lot of reading, research & trials, this is what I have found.

First, what started it all – Tinted Moisturizers

Tinted Moisturizers

As the name suggests, these products give a bit of colour (usually sheer) along with moisturizing benefits. In my opinion, this would be ideal for people who do not wish to wear makeup everyday & are not comfortable using foundations. Apply this as you would apply a moisturizer & you’re good to go.

Now, BB creams

BB Creams

What they stand for: Beauty Benefit, Beauty Balm, Blemish Balms, etc

Texture: Creamy & Moisturizing

What it does: Provides added skin care benefits like SPF, extra hydration & anti-oxidants along with a touch more coverage than a tinted moisturizer, but lighter than foundations. These also contain ingredients that help even out skin tone and reflect light to give you that dewy look.

Usage: Do not douse your face with this product like you would a sunscreen. Less is more so squeeze in a tiny amount & apply a light layer on your face. It may also be used as a foundation base. Although they have high SPF, it is not a replacement for sunscreens.

Ideal for: Young skin that doesn’t need too much coverage. Do not use BB creams if you have lots of acne.

Key Difference: BB creams are your all-in-one product because they’re a combination of SPF, primer, and anti-aging ingredients—plus, they offer light to medium coverage, whereas a tinted moisturizer’s biggest job is to provide hydration, minimal coverage, and sometimes sun protection.

CC Creams

CC Creams

What is stand for: Colour Correction, Complexion Care, Colour Control, etc.

Texture: Lightweight & Fast Absorbing

What it does: They provide a clean, even complexion and cover up dull spots, redness, acne scars, etc. These give more coverage (instant & protective) and are closer to foundation than the BB Cream. They typically have light-diffusing particles, which visually even skin tone.

Ideal for: If your skin is acne prone, have constant redness, dull looking or dark spots then the CC cream is the right product for you.

Usage: The cream is so lightly textured that you can apply a few layers without your face looking like you are making a birthday cake. Applying foundation on CC cream is not recommended.

Key Difference: Unlike the BB cream the CC cream contains ingredients that target troubled areas (packed with Vitamin C and E) rather than maintenance and prevention.

Which product & brand you should buy really depends on your preference & how much coverage you are looking for. Always try the product & see how it feels on your skin before investing. Do you own any alphabet cream that you love or hate or need a review for? Let me know in the comments below.

One Product, Many Uses

There are so many products that are almost vintage in nature, considering the number of years people have been using them blindly. These differ from country to country, but one product that is global in nature is the good old Vaseline Petroleum Jelly. And no, I am not being paid to write this article. 😉 It’s just that I have been using this product ever since I was a child and my mom introduced me to it. Over the years, I have learnt so many different ways you could use the product – & not only to soothe dry skin or chapped lips.

vaseline-petroleum-jelly_bsThis might be one of the most underutilized product especially during summers, but try it in any one or all of the following ways & you may be able to relate to my love for it.

  1. For Women @ Work
    • Trick – Perfume Sticker spray-perfume
    • Rub some Vaseline on your pulse points before you spray perfume. It holds the scent much longer & ensures you stay fresh all day long.
  2. For the Lazy Makeup Lover
    • Trick – Makeup Stain Remover
    • With a damp washcloth, use Vaseline to easily lift makeup stains (that were a result of not washing face the night before) from clothes as well as pillows, Blankets, etc.
  3. For the Messy Nail-Polisher
    • Trick – Mess Free Manicureapplying-nail-polish
    • Apply Vaseline to your cuticles before polishing your nails. This will help keep the colour off of the skin around your nails. You’ll get a perfect manicure—minus the clean-up.
  4. For Cream-Base Product Lovers
    • Trick – Cosmetics CustomizerPigments
    • Turn your favourite loose pigments into cream eye shadow or blush by mixing them with Vaseline. You can also make a tinted lip balm this way.
  5. For the perfect No-Makeup Look
    • Trick – Lash Conditioner
    • Trade in your mascara for Vaseline. Smooth a tiny amount over your lashes for a fuller set of dark, glossy eyelashes.
  6. For the Chappy Lips
    • Trick – DIY Exfoliator
    • Apply Vaseline generously on your lips & rub a cotton bud to exfoliate & hydrate dry lips.
  7. For One & All
    • Trick – Gentle eye makeup remover
    • Vaseline easily and gently removes eyeliner, mascara, shadow, and even any eyelash glue that your falsies leave behind.

Sweat-Proof Your Makeup

Sweat Proof MakeupThe inclination to wear makeup every day is directly proportional to the temperature outside. Understandably so… you don’t want to be sweating & have your makeup trickle down at the same time throughout the day. Here is some good news – there are ways to avoid this. The most important being using minimum products, ones that are waterproof & not oil based.

  1. Rub a cube of ice all over your face before putting on any products. This helps close the pores & minimizes oil secretion.
  2. Go for the Primer – this will help your makeup sit much longer on your skin through the day. Click here to know more about Primers
  3. For the base – Avoid using liquid foundations as they tend to melt & cake. Choose either one of these options:
    • Opt for light weight cream based foundations or mousses
    • Opt for tinted moisturizers or BB creams that already have sufficient amount of have SPF
  4. Cream eye shadows & blushes offer a formula that helps it absorb in to skin and last all day compared to powders. Utilize them during summers.
  5. Lip & cheek stains work absolute wonders. They give that colour & yet do not feel heavy on skin. The Body Shop lip & cheek stain in the shade Rose Pink is one of my favourites! It looks very natural & is something I like to wear to work everyday.
  6. If you are not a fan of stains on the lips, go for matt lipsticks
  7. Use waterproof mascaras & kohls/ eye pencils
  8. Using any translucent powder to set your t-zone goes a long way
